Niddy-Noddy

Heute habe ich neue Spielsachen bekommen, zumindest habe ich mich über mein neues Handarbeitszubehör genauso gefreut, wie mein Sohn über Spielsachen. Endlich habe ich eine Kreuzhaspel (von Kromski, Stranglänge ca 80 cm) und habe sie natürlich auch gleich benutzt, um ein wenig Lace Garn zu wickeln, das nach dem Färben verknotet war. Insgesamt habe ich bis jetzt 2 Stränge gewickelt, ca. 2000 m Garn, danach tat mir dann die Schulter weh und ich musste weitere Benutzung der Haspel auf morgen verlagern. Wenn man aber mal den Dreh raus hat, geht das Wickeln eigentlich wie von selbst.

Today I got new toys, at least I was as excited about my new crafting tools as my son is about new toys. Finally I got a niddy-noddy (by Kromski, skein length about 80 cm) and I immediately used it to re-wind some lace yarn that got tangled during dyeing. All in all I wound 2 skeins today, about 2000 m of yarn, then my shoulder started to hurt and I had to postpone further use until tomorrow. As soon as you get the hang of using the niddy-noddy, everything goes really smoothly.

Fall Flurry

Außerdem habe ich noch eine neue Handspindel bekommen, eine ganz einfache von Ashford. Darauf habe ich dann endlich mal mein Alpaka in wunderschönen Herbstfarben angesponnen – bis jetzt bin ich absolut begeistert von dem Ergebnis. Wie man vielleicht sieht, spinne ich noch nicht so ganz gleichmässig, aber ich bin ja noch Anfänger. Zur Zeit spinne ich noch mit der ‘Park and Draft’ Methode (Anleitung auf Englisch), seit ich das mache habe ich nicht mehr das Gefühl dass mir eine Hand fehlt und mein Garn wird auch einigermassen gleichmässig, wenn auch lange nicht perfekt. Wenn ihr also schonmal versucht habt zu spinnen und es hat nicht gut funktioniert ist diese Methode echt empfehlenswert.

Additionally, I got a new drop spindle, a rather simple one from Ashford. With it I finally started to spin my beautiful alpaca roving in autumn colors – so far I really love the results. As you probably can see, my yarn isn’t completely even yet, but I’m still learning how to spin. Right now I’m using the ‘Park and Draft’ method and finally don’t feel like I don’t have enough hands – and my yarn is a lot more even, but still far from being perfect. If you ever tried to spin and it didn’t really work, you should give this method a try.
