TARDIS Day Swap – Ducks Style

Favorite Doctor: Ten and Eleven
Favorite Companion: Donna, Amy
Favorite Baddie: Weeping Angels, Daleks
Favorite Master: Simm! Master
Do you anti-love any Doctors, companions, or baddies? not really
Are you mainly a new Who fan (8 and up), a classic Who fan (1-8), or both?More New Who, didn’t get around to watch much Classic Who yet
Have you enjoyed Doctor Who in any medium besides the TV series (or fan-fiction or private musings)? I have listened to a few of the audio books – mainly about Ten
Do you like tea, coffee, and/or cocoa? What do you like to nibble with your beverage(s) of choice? Get detailed. Go on, make us drool! Yes to all of them. I love Earl Grey or blends of black tea with different kinds of things, fruit infusions and roibos – just no green tea. I’m adventurous and like to try new things, so send me whatever you think I might like. Chances are good I actually will. I like coffee too, but as I only have a machine that works with pads, sending coffee might not be a good idea – coffee flavoured things on the other hand are great. Cocoa will be enjoyed both by me and my son, I like it in all varieties – it’s chocolate after all – but he doesn’t like the darker stuff. And of course he loves it with marshmallows.
Snacks… any kind of cookies/biscuits will be loved here, especially if it’s something that’s hard to get in Germany like Oreos or Jammy Dodgers or something local to wherever you live. I always bring shortbread from the UK, but there’s never enough to last until my next trip. In the last Who swap I received some Halva filled peanut snacks that were amazing. Same goes here as for tea, I love to try new things and as long as there are no raisins in it, I’ll try it – and probably like it. Chocolate in all forms is great, as is caramel… we are really easy to please, as long as you don’t send liquorice. Homemade treats are fine by me too – or perhaps a favourite cookie or brownie recipe or whatever you like to have with your tea/coffee/cocoa
How do you feel about receiving a full skein of handspun as one of your crafted items? Do you spin? If not, would you like a learning-kit? If yes, what are your favorite fibers to spin, and are there any to avoid? Are there any weights or style of spindle you’re yearning for? I love handspun. I spin on a drop spindle from time to time, but I still have a lot of fiber I haven’t used yet, so fibre probably wouldn’t be the best idea. I’ll love it if it hasn’t wool in it, but it might sit here for a long time until it is spun. But a nice, well balanced spindle would be great, I just have one so far I like to use

Fun theoretical question: The Doctor invites you to go travelling w him, just for a few stops, little vacation trip through time and space and then back home. Which Doctor and why, and name 3 time/places you’d want to visit I’d probably prefer to travel with 10 or 11 as I’m most familiar with them – not that I’d say no to any of the other Doctors, after all I’d get to travel in the TARDIS… My three places are more difficult, there is so much to chose from… Let me see…

  • I’d like to see a really Viking village, or even a larger city of that time like Haithabu (not sure about the spelling here). This time period has always been interesting to me and I’d love to find out how much of what archaeologists and historians “found out” is really true and where they made mistakes
  • A planet with non-violent, non-human population of the Doctor’s chosing… some place exciting, just not too dangerous. But that might be too much to ask, he tends to end up in the middle of something ;-)
  • And I’ll have to second Victorian England – dressing up from the TARDIS wardrobe sounds like fun. I know, I could do that when visiting other places too, but I just love Victorian dresses and corsets

Speak to me of your need or love for any cozies: Sonics, teapots, mugs, french presses, TCEs, electronic devices. Please include dimensions or a web-link to your model, out of love for your spoiler. And/or are you a vinyl decal sort of Whovian? (I double-dog-dare you to post awesome decal pics/links for group appreciation!) mug cozies or something for my cellphone or iPod touch would be fun – or probably even for my netbook. Please no teapot cozy though… will have to look for dimensions. Vinyl decals for my netbook would be great too…
What crafts do you do? What crafts don’t you do? Are there any crafts (do or don’t) whose products you would extra-love to receive? This could help your spoilee with their crafting and/or their shopping, so please, share with detail! I knit, crochet, dye yarn, make stitch markers – and sew, but am not that good at sewing yet. I can spin with a drop spindle and know how to to tablet weaving, but lack time to do it. I play with polymer clay and paper crafts… Guess I have tried a lot of things and still have supplies, but knitting and crochet are my main crafts at the moment. What I don’t do at all is embroidery – I don’t enjoy it – and painting/drawing – no talent at all there. There’s no craft I’d prefer to receive over another, it’s more that I prefer specific items over others… For example everything to go on my walls shouldn’t be too big, same goes for other decorative items – I just don’t have much space for them
What color are your Chuck Taylors? Red or Black
what region(s) of DVD do you have the ability to play? Europe – whatever region code that is
Costume-ability question: Are you interested in sortof costumey Whovian things arriving in your box? If so, which of the following kinds of costumery are you into: Easy-Halloween (for you and/or kidlets), Way-into-it-Halloween, convention cosplay, dance (what kind), era re-enactment (which eras), Rennaissance Faire, steampunk, or other thingy you need to tell us all about! Are there any particular eras/characters that you’d like costume things to reflect? interested – yes, sure… I do cosplay for conventions, so that or Halloween would be fun… for male characters I tend to do female variations of the costumes, I already have a female John Hart and part of a female Ianto costume – I know, Torchwood, not Who… I definitely can’t pull off Amy in cosplay, no way, I’m not even going to try. I’d probably love to do a fem!Ten of Eleven at some point but haven’t really thought about how to make it more female… I guess I’d mostly keep the top part of their costumes and combine it with a skirt… for Ten I can even imagine the pinstripe fabric in a kind of steampunky/victorian dress, or with an a-line skirt. Pencil skirt would fit better with the costume, but I can’t wear them without looking silly. I need at least an a-line or even better a really full skirt – knee length or ankle length. For Eleven, no idea. And I second the want for a Captain Jack coat – but I can’t wear wool, so it’s not an option to get one in an Army surplus store in the UK sigh A pattern and/or a non-wool fabric that would work for it would be great
Opinion poll (not an official must-answer question): Femme Three: Skirt or pants? Skirt… a wide, long one
Important question for this swap: What’s your Whovian Rainbow, ie, what color/item combos say “Doctor Who” to you? And if there’s a color in there you want no part of, please say so!
Pink: no pink for me please
Red: love it, darker reds are preferred for things close to my face… and Ten’s Chucks were red, so are Eleven’s fez and bowtie
Orange/peach: probably not as the main colour in a wearable item, but orange like Gallifrey sounds good – no peach, though
Yellow: doesn’t say Who to me at all… but it’s fine as part of an item, not as main colour
Green: darker greens are okay, but don’t think it’s a Who colour for me
Teal: lighter teal like the TARDIS console… especially when combined with some cream/gold – not for a wearable item
Blue: sure, TARDIS blue is perfect
Purple: one of my favourite colours… probably not particularly Who, but if you have an idea how to make it work, go for it
Brown: Ten’s pinstripe suit, yes please…
White: only small amounts of white for me
Black: black is always good
Multicolour: scarf colours are great, as are other colour combinations (like for example brown/blue for Ten’s suit, TARDIS console room colours…) For non-costume wearables it should probably be on the darker side, I wear mainly black with red and purple, but for non-wearables or costume items everything that fits the Who theme is fine by me – except for pink and pastels. I don’t have any special items for certain colours in mind, sorry. And the list is missing grey for the Weeping Angels or Daleks (okay, more metallic than grey, but still)

First and foremost: go catch up to all the questions already in post #2! done
Which other swaps have you been in at this point in your timeline? Please provide a link to the thread for any non-Duck swaps. Who were your spoiler and spoilee for the previous Odd Duck Who swap, if you participated? Odd Ducks Who swap and Steampunk swap, a lot of Hogwarts Sock Kits Swap, a Buffy swap in the Buffy Knitters and several that were not on Ravelry
Are you willing to ship internationally/do you have shipping preferences? Yes, international is no problem… and Europe or US doesn’t make a difference in cost so I’m up for anything
Please list your allergies (pets, smoke, spices, fibers, metals, alien technologies) cats, smoke, scented things, wool, mohair… more details on my blog
Do you or anyone in your household smoke (tobacco or bio-combustive processes)? no
Do you or anyone in your household have pets? If so, what kind? no
What is your favorite icon of the series? the TARDIS
Do you welcome a small item or two for the other members of your household? If so, what should it be: something for your SO or roomies, candy for kids, pet toys, etc? Yes, my 7 year old loves some candy or a small toy… any stuffed animals/items will be stolen by him too
What’s your favorite DW episode (or 3) and what about them did you particularly like? Least favorite(s) and why? Wow, that’s a hard one… can’t really narrow it down. I lovedEmpty Child/The Doctor dances as it gave us Captain Jack, was fun and creepy at the same time, gave insight in the Doctor’s personality… The Doctor’s Wife was awesome – but I love Neil Gaiman, so that was to be expected. So many great lines, Idris, little bits of information about the Doctor’s past… Vincent and the Doctor was just amazing… I could go on, but I’ll leave it at those
Should your spoiler look in your fave patterns or queue for ideas of what to make? Are there tags s/he should look for? In both things are tagged as “mine” or sorted into the tab “for myself”
What length is your hair, and do you like hair toys? It goes over my shoulders, and yes, I like hair toys
Would you like to receive patterns from your wishlist? Would it disappoint you to get the pattern rather than the made-up item? I’d be happy with both
What are your favorite things about Dr. Who (the actors, the writing, the time-travel, the drama, the comedy…)? The mix of drama and comedy, I think it is nicely balanced… I like the change, the Doctor is somehow the same and yet not every time he regenerates/another actor takes over… I especially like Moffat’s writing, it makes me think, makes me pay attention and entertains me at the same time
Type to me of jewellery. Do you wear earrings? Bracelets? Necklaces? Anklets? Belly chains? What styles do you like? Supply 3 adjectives as a starting point. What metals do/don’t you wear? I mostly wear bracelets and necklaces, but earrings would be fine too. Most of the time I prefer silver coloured metals, not gold – and if it is brass/gold then please, not shiny. Unless it is part of a costume of course, then I wear whatever fits the costume. No rings please, I have allergy problems on my hands and rings tend to make it worse no matter what kind of material
Bowtie, scarf, both, or neither? both
What is your favorite yarn weight to use for yourself? fingering or worsted
Favorite color(s)? black, red, purple, jewel tones – no pink or pastels
Favorite fiber(s)? bamboo, alpaca, silk
In honor of Amy Pond: nail polish? What colors do you want and which colors do you have enough of? Hell yes (what a surprise, hehe)… Brands that are hard to get in Germany as Essie, Orly, China Glaze, OPI etc would be most welcome, but I don’t mind the less expensive varieties.
How do you feel about yarn bowls? Small tray-plates for holding beads and stitch markers and such while you work? Are there any other craft supplies or working aids that you’d love in some Whovian version? A yarn bowl might be useful, don’t need any small trays or such… a second needle gauge or another tape measure would be most welcome, as are stitch markers
What snacks do you like? Most sweet and savoury snacks will be eaten by someone here – just no liquorice
Measurements, and I mean the kind involving numbers, cuz “average” or “big” means totally different things to different people. Imagine a Silurian trying to make mitts for an “average” Slitheen! hands, wrists, feet, neck, head. Have them collected on my blog
Do you have wishlists at Etsy, Knitpicks, Amazon, Audible, or other online places your spoilee might like to see for a sampling of your tastes? If so, please provide linkage!again, see my blog
Anything else your spoiler should know about you and your interests? again, see my blog

Have you re-read the first two posts in this thread and the Odd Duck rules (page and thread!) and agree to follow them? yes
Do you agree to check for DMs and reply to any mod-passed-along questions at least weekly throughout the swap of course
Do you agree to answer all questions in this thread by the next check-in date, which includes weekly checkins for the first month? This includes ALL questions in post #2’s summary, even if you’re pretty sure that they’re not from your spoiler due to geography.yes
Have you updated your Odd Duck wishlist within the last 3 months (requirement!!)? What number is your post in that thread? it is post #479
Do you agree to ship on time, use Delivery Confirmation (USPS requirement) and send that number to the mod when you ship, or, if you reallllly need an extension, to talk with the mod about that before the shipping deadline? sure
Do you understand that not fulfilling the big-reminder-type things may result in your being removed from the swap and cursed with a black spot (ie, blacklisted)? I do
Bought vs handmade: Both is fine for me, whatever suits my spoiler best. The only thing I ask for is that it should be made for me, with my wishes, likes and dislikes in mind – then I don’t mind either handmade or store bought. I would love me some official merchandise, as it’s hard to get in Germany, but wouldn’t mind not to receive any.
handspun mohair thanks, but no thanks – am allergic to mohair, at least last time I used mohair it made me itch and sneeze
How do you feel about items such as bookmarks, figurines, indie art cards, and other assorted con swag I like it… never can go to a con without buying at least a little something… bookmarks, cards, figurines, key chains, buttons/pins… whatever it is, I’ll most likely love it
Speak to me of scarves: Would you like A Scarf? ;) Mega-size and/or stealth geek normal-scarf size? Which Doctor or companion? no mega size scarf for me please, I’m tiny… it can be long, but not quite as long as the original Scarf. A stealth-geek scarf that’s inspired by any of the Doctors or companions would be fun too – and would probably get worn more.
what kind of item except a Scarf would you like to receive in Scarf colours? socks, project bag, gloves/mitts, small-ish accessories… probably nothing too big like a shawl, as I wouldn’t wear it that often. Larger items should go with my mostly black/red/purple wardrobe.
Dear spoilee, How worried should I be about overt complete-n-total geekiness on your main large item? I have this idea, but it’s… well. Like a Scarf, people at the grocery might ask about it or look at it funny in a Mugglesy confused state. Should I go ahead? Go ahead… people already look at me funny with my Doctor Who and Firefly shirts, as most people here in Germany don’t get them. I couldn’t care less, let them think what they want, doesn’t bother me
What knit/crocheted items would you most like to receive? What wouldn’t you like or use? pretty much everything, but if it is a hat, it should have a brim. I look awful in hats without a brim. Otherwise I wear handknit socks, fingerless mitts, gloves, scarves, shawls, vests… Wash cloths are fine too, or pot holders, so are bags  Edited to add: I don’t really like cowls, armwarmers without a thumb hole, legwarmers
What’s your dream cross-generation Doctor/Companion combo? now that’s a tough one, haven’t seen much classic Who… but Ace with Ten might have been fun
I shall be going to Rhinebeck in a couple of weeks. It is like knitter’s heaven! Would you be interested in anything special from there? sure, anything you think I’ll like
Do you like handmade pottery? Do you have a preference for mugs, bowl, plates, yarn bowls, cups, etc.? I love it… don’t really need another mug, but for handmade I’d make an exception… or a yarn bowl, other decorative bowl or plate to use on my table for fruit/snacks etc
How do you feel about amazingly awesome paintings? I can’t paint or draw myself, so I admire everyone who can do it – however, I don’t have much wall space to put anything up, so if you are sending something to me, please make sure it’s smallish
Do you like amigurumis or dolls? I like them, but they usually get stolen by my 7 year old boy… he’s already holding a sonic screwdriver, a Mr. Pointy, a kitten and a bunny hostage (from previous Buffy and Who swaps)
Nova Scotia Yarn Goodness local alpaca sounds great… sheep too, but due to my allergy it might not be the best choice for me
Which emotions do your favorite episodes induce? They are all a bit creepy, but funny at times. The best ones have a bit of everything, make me laugh, hide behind the sofa and make me sad. Everything that evokes emotions is good, it’s a sign of good TV for me that it makes me feel with the characters I see on screen
