Als Doctor Who Fan konnte ich diesem Garn in den Farben des Doctor Who Schals einfach nicht widerstehen – auch wenn kein Grün dabei ist. Leider ist das Garn von Knit Picks, die nicht nach Deutschland verschicken – aber wozu hat man Freunde in den USA? Emilyooo war so nett, das Garn zu bestellen und zu mir zu schicken. Das erste von 4 Knäuel à 50 g ist zu einem Paar Socken für mich geworden, manchmal hat es echt seine Vorteile, wenn man nur Schuhgröße 36 hat.
Es sind ganz einfache Socken in glatt rechts, mit einem 1R1L Bündchen, Bumerangferse mit Wickelmaschen und Bandspitze. Ein Muster hätte bei dem Garn nur störend gewirkt oder wäre nicht zur Geltung gekommen, so sieht man die Streifen doch am besten.

As a fan of Doctor Who I just couldn’t resist this yarn in Scarf colours – even if it hasn’t any green. Unfortunately the yarn is from Knit Picks and they don’t ship to Germany – but what do I have friends in the US for? Emilyooo was kind enough to order the yarn for me and ship it to me. The first of 4 50 g skeins has been turned into a pair of socks for me, sometimes it’s an advantage to have a tiny shoe size (US 5 1/2, UK 3).
They are basic socks in stockinette, with a 1/1 ribbing at the cuff, wrapped stitch heel and standard toe. A pattern wouldn’t have looked good in this yarn – if it had been visible at all. This way the stripes are perfect.

Ich bin so froh, dass ich den Sip n’ Stitch Tea Club von The Unique Sheep abonniert habe. Das ist die zweite Lieferung und ich mag sie noch mehr als die erste. Wunderschöne Sockenwolle, die ganz alleine für mich ist *fies grins* in Farbe “Buccaneer”, schwarzer Tee der ebenfalls “Buccaneer” heisst von Serendipitea.com, eine Unique Sheep Tasse und Honig.
Der Tee schmeckt übrigens super, vielleicht werde ich dort noch mehr bestellen. Es ist ein schwarzer Tee mit Kokosnuss und anderen Zutaten.
Wenn es mal wieder einen Sip n’ Stitch Club mit Tee gibt, werde ich auf jeden Fall wieder dabei sein – im Moment gibt es nur einen mit Kaffee.

I’m so happy I signed up for the Sip n’ Stitch Tea club from The Unique Sheep. This is the second shipment and I love it even more than the first one. Beautiful sock yarn, which will be all mine *insert evil laughter here* in colourway “Buccaneer”, black tea called “Buccaneer” by Serendipitea.com, a Unique Sheep mug and some honey.
The tea tastes great by the way, I might just order some more from them, it’s a really nice blend of black tea with coconut and more.

Auch wenn es im Moment zu heiss ist um ihn zu tragen, mein Revontuli (pdf auf deutsch) ist fertig geworden. Relativ klein, da aus Lace-Garn und ich habe leider kurz vor Ende einen Fehler eingebaut, den ich nicht finden konnte. Also hatte ich nicht die Möglichkeit einfach einen oder zwei Mustersätze mehr zu stricken. Aber gerade für den Sommer ist so ein kleines Tuch toll, es nimmt nicht viel Platz weg in der Tasche und wärmt trotzdem, wenn es abends kühler wird. Das Garn ist Schoppel Lace-Zauberball in Farbe Brombeere.
Der Revontuli ist sehr einfach zu stricken, fast schon perfekt zum Fernsehstricken, war also ein netter Einstieg für mich ins Arbeiten mit Lace-Garn. Jetzt habe ich fast noch ein halbes Knäuel von dem Garn übrig und werde mir wohl ein anderes, kleines Projekt suchen um das Garn aufzubrauchen.

Even if it is too hot to wear it right now, my Revontuli (pdf in English) is done. Rather small, as I made it with lace weight yarn and somehow I managed to make a mistake right towards the which I couldn’t figure out. So I couldn’t just add a pattern repeat or two to make it bigger. But for summer such a small shawl is great, it doesn’t need much space in your purse, but it still keeps you warm in the evenings when it cools down. Yarn is Schoppel Lace Zauberball in colour Brombeere.
It’s very easy to knit a Revontuli, it’s almost perfect for TV knitting – so it was a nice introduction into using lace weight yarn for me. Now I have almost half a skein of the yarn left, so I need to find another small project to use it up.

Als ich diese tollen Handschuhe gesehen habe, wusste ich sofort dass ich sie für mich stricken muss. Und dann suchte die Designerin tatsächlich Teststricker, also habe ich mich gemeldet. Es war eine echte Herausforderung, da ich nicht viel Erfahrung im Lace-Stricken habe und noch nie mit Perlen gestrickt habe. Aber das Ergebnis ist die Mühe auf jeden Fall wert. Die Anleitung ist auf englisch, hat aber auch Strickschriften sowie jede Menge Links zu youtube Videos für spezielle Techniken. Zu finden ist die Anleitung bei Ravelry, Northanger Gloves von Ann Kingston, ich habe sie aus Artesano Alpaca 4ply in schwarz und FB 4345 gestrickt. Jetzt muss es nur wieder kälter werden, damit ich sie auch tragen kann.

As soon as I saw those beautiful gloves, I knew that I had to knit them for myself. And then the designer was looking for test knitters, so I signed up. It was a challenge for me, as I’m not an experienced lace knitter and I never made a beaded knit project before. But the result is more than worth the effort. The pattern has written instructions and charts, as well as a lot of links to video tutorials for special techniques. Für einen Tausch habe ich aus Austermann Kokon fingerlose Handschuhe und eine Mütze gestrickt. Die Handschuhe basieren auf der Anleitung für Waves Armwarmers allerdings habe ich richtige Handschuhe statt Stulpen draus gemacht.

For a swap, I made fingerless mitts and a hat using Austermann Kokon. The mitts are based on the pattern for Waves Armwarmers but I turned them into mitts with a thumb instead of arm warmers.
Und die Mütze ist Ripley von Isolda Teague aus ihrem ebook “Whimsical Little Knits 2″. Den muss ich wohl auch nochmal für mich stricken, gefällt mir echt gut.
