Nicht das beste Foto, aber außer meinem 5-jährigen Sohn war keiner da um mich zu fotografieren. Das ist mein erstes Projekt aus dem Nähkurs, ein knielanger Rock aus dunkelrotem Samt. An den Samt habe ich mich alleine nicht rangewagt und das war auch eine gute Entscheidung. Der Schnitt ist ganz einfach, nur 4 Bahnen und ein Streifen für den Bund, aber Samt hat ja eine Richtung und außerdem ist er gar nicht so einfach zu versäubern, da die Ränder sehr leicht ausfransen. Zum Glück hatten wir im Nähkurs eine Overlock Maschine, die das Ganze wesentlich einfacher gemacht hat. Und dank Rockabrunder habe ich jetzt endlich mal einen Rock, der nicht hinten kürzer ist als vorne.

Nächstes Mal werde ich den Schnitt aber etwas weiter machen, der Rock sitzt für meinen Geschmack etwas zu weit oben in der Taille. Ich finde das macht meinen Oberkörper zu kurz. Deshalb werde ich wohl immer etwas dazu tragen, was etwas länger ist und bis zur Hüfte geht.

Not the best pic, but except for my 5 year old boy nobody was around to take my pic. That’s the first project I made in sewing class, a knee length skirt out of deep red velvet. I didn’t dare to use the velvet on my own and that was probably a good decision. The pattern is rather simple, just 4 pieces to make the skirt plus a strip of fabric for the waistband, but velvet has to be cut in the same direction to look good and it’s not really easy to neaten the edges as it is fraying a lot. Luckily we had an overlock sewing machine, which made it a lot easier. And thanks to a skirt marker I finally have a skirt that’s not shorter in the back than in the front.

Next time I’d make the skirt a bit wider on the top, as for my liking, it is sitting a bit too high up on my waist. I think it makes my upper body look too short. That’s why I most likely will only wear it with longer tops, that go down to my hips.
